Organisations are the "umbrellas" of Sugar: they serve to bring together information under the umbrella of a single company or group of related companies.

There is a logic to organisations in Sugar:

We aim to have only one organisation record per business.

So we have, simply, Allen & Overy, rather than Allen & Overy London; Allen & Overy Moscow; Allen & Overy Hong Kong, etc.

We have a straightforward naming convention for organisations, which is enforced by our CRM Administrators.

Creating and deleting organisations incorrectly can lead to serious data integrity issues. As a result, only CRM Administrators can create new organisations in Sugar.

It is intentional that we are not recording location information at the organisation level. This is because many companies or firms have multiple offices around the world. We store division and location information at the contact level instead.
